Latest Update: 2025 Chevrolet Bolt EV is most likely to launch in 2024.
Bid farewell to the Chevrolet Bolt by the year’s end, but don’t mourn its departure too long – it’s poised for a triumphant return in 2025, as declared by General Motors CEO Mary Barra.
During a recent Automotive Press Association gathering in Detroit, Barra shared anecdotes of Bolt enthusiasts expressing their love for the electric vehicle (EV). According to Automotive News, she emphasized the positive feedback received this year, affirming that it played a pivotal role in the decision to resurrect the Bolt in ’25.
Chevrolet has divulged that the forthcoming iteration of the Bolt will gracefully traverse the roads on the Ultium EV platform, fortified by a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Barra, in a statement from October, outlined the strategic advantages of this move, stating, “In the process, we are saving billions in capital and engineering expense, delivering a significantly cost-improved battery pack using purchased LFP cells, we’re getting to market at least two years faster, and our unit cost will be substantially lower.”
While details on powertrain and range specifications remain elusive, Barra’s insights suggest that the LFP battery will play a pivotal role in maintaining the vehicle’s affordability during the transition to the Ultium platform. Notably, the current Bolt starts at $27,495 after destination charges, excluding any government incentives.
July saw the release of a solitary teaser image for the new Bolt, offering a glimpse of the revamped taillight housing but leaving much to the imagination.
The production locus of the next-gen Bolt might witness a shift from the Orion Assembly Plant to Fairfax, Kansas. The United Auto Workers’ tentative agreement with GM alludes to a $391-million investment in the latter for a “future electric vehicle,” as disclosed by anonymous sources to Reuters. Speculations abound that these upgrades could be tailored for the production of the next-gen Bolt.
Despite the impending cessation of production in December, the Bolt is experiencing robust sales in the current year. As of the third quarter, Chevy has delivered 49,494 units (inclusive of the EUV variant) in 2023, marking a staggering 124.9 percent surge compared to the same period last year.
