The prototype that was discovered this week in northern Sweden appears to have the final lights and the entire production body. Although it does not appear to be as sleek as the concept, it does appear to be less bulbous than the mechanically related VW ID.5 GTX and Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV. We are getting the impression that it is a little smaller than its two MEB-based siblings and rides on the same turbine-styled wheels as the concept, although we are unsure whether they are the same size (22 inches). As was to be expected, it does not appear to be as sleek as the concept.
After the Born compact hatchback, Cupra’s second EV should feature dual motors and be developed in Barcelona. The youngest brand in the VW Group wants to be a sportier alternative to VW and Skoda, so it should at least match the ID.5 GTX and Enyaq Coupe RS’s electric punch. As a result, you should look for a dual-motor setup with about 460 Newton-meters of torque and just over 300 horsepower.
The production version of the Tavascan should go on sale later this year, as Cupra has stated that it will do so in Europe and other markets by 2024. The electric crossover will be made in China at a brand-new VW Group plant in Anhui that will also make MEB-based models. The factory will begin serial production in the second half of 2023 and has a capacity of 350,000 electric vehicles per year.
The Terramar will join the Cupra lineup in 2024, so the Tavascan isn’t the only new model. It is anticipated to be the last new model from the brand with a combustion engine. It will be a plug-in hybrid crossover that will be paired with the Audi Q3 of the next generation. In point of fact, the Four Rings will actually construct it at their Gyr plant in Hungary.
