The highly anticipated launch event took an unexpected turn, steering away from the conventional script. While the company certainly put on a distinctive display of their latest automobile, it was Nio’s CEO, William Li, who found himself playing second fiddle. Curious as to why? It appears that the EC6 has been meticulously tailored for a specific niche audience, departing from the broader target of its sibling, the ES6 – a move that Nio simply cannot afford to falter on.
Measuring in at 4,849 mm in length and 1,995 mm in width, the vehicle stands tall at 1,697 mm and boasts a substantial wheelbase of 2,915 mm. The EC6 proudly sports the familiar aesthetics of other models based on the NT 2.0 platform, with recognizable taillights, headlights, and the trusty roof-mounted LiDAR and camera setup. But there’s more to it than just a pretty facade – under the hood, or rather, beneath the sleek body, the EC6 houses dual electric motors, proudly manufactured in Hefei, Anhui province, providing a remarkable 150 kW of power to the front and a staggering 210 kW to the rear. These impressive figures allow the EC6 to achieve a top speed of 200 km/h, a performance that places it on par with its powertrain counterparts, the ES6, ET5, and ET5 Touring.
For those intrigued by battery options, Nio offers a choice between two: a standard 75-kWh range battery or a more robust 100-kWh long-range pack. Opting for the Battery as a Service (BaaS) model, customers can enjoy a lighter upfront cost of €36,900, coupled with a monthly rental fee of €126 for the 75-kWh variant or €215 for the 100-kWh powerhouse. The EC6 comes equipped with an array of comfort features, including the alluring “Queen’s seat,” which was once a pricey add-on for the ES6.
Taking a trip down memory lane, the original EC6, built upon the NT 1.0 platform, made its debut in late December 2019, with the first set of keys handed over to eager customers in September 2020. This time, Nio has accelerated the pace. When can you expect delivery of the new EC6? The answer is simple: today. No more waiting games.
During a recent analyst call following their second-quarter earnings announcement, Nio’s management radiated optimism regarding their revamped product lineup. They are pinning their hopes on their diverse portfolio of eight distinct products to cater to the discerning tastes of the premium market segment, with the aim of achieving a substantial boost in overall deliveries. To put things in perspective, the ES6 SUV, which aligns more closely with the preferences of Chinese consumers, reported impressive deliveries of 11,118 units in July and 8,601 units in August – a testament to Nio’s growing presence in the automotive industry.
