Who needs rumors when you can have actual photos of the Nio ET5 Touring in Norway? The company may not have been ready to reveal its electric wagon, but someone has given us a sneak peek, and it looks stunning in Airspace Blue. In a market filled with sedans and SUVs, the ET5 Touring is a breath of fresh air, offering the convenience of a wagon with all the benefits of an electric powertrain. While the European market already has several wagon models, the MG5 is the only electric option. However, the ET5 Touring sets itself apart with its impressive performance, making it a worthy competitor to the likes of the BMW M3, Audi RS4, and AMG CLA Shooting Brake.
At 4.8 meters, the ET5 Touring may be too small to compete with the bigger segment represented by the BMW M5, Audi RS6, and AMG E-Class, but it still packs a punch with its AWD 490 hp (360 kW) powertrain, capable of launching the sedan version from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4 seconds. With both models sharing the same powertrain, we can expect the Touring version to be just as quick, if not quicker, despite its slightly heavier weight.
The ET5 Touring offers two battery options, with the 75 kWh pack providing 455 km (283 miles) and the 100 kWh pack providing 589 km (366 miles) of WLTP-certified range. However, Nio has applied for re-certification of its vehicles in China with a new 150 kWh semi-solid battery pack from WeLion New Energy Technology, which could offer a range of up to 1,000 km (620 miles) by the end of the summer. This battery comes at a premium, costing as much as the ET5 Touring itself, and will only be available through Nio’s BaaS subscription program.
Despite its impressive performance and features, the ET5 Touring’s price point is expected to be similar to that of the ET5 sedan, which starts at €47,500 in Germany (without the battery, which is €12,000 extra or €169 per month). With the 100 kWh ET5 sedan starting at €68,500 (or €47,500 without the battery plus €289 every month), we can expect the ET5 Touring to be priced around €70,000. While this may seem like a lot, it is still significantly less than the BMW M3 Touring. Nio fans can look forward to the launch of the ET5 Touring and see for themselves how it stacks up against the competition.
